Chelsea Angelo is set to make a one-off return to TCR Australia later this month, confirming a drive at Phillip Island’s second round of the 2021 season.

The 24-year-old will campaign a Volkswagen Golf TCR prepared by Melbourne Performance Centre, the same specification of car that carried Aaron Cameron to third in the 2019 championship standings. The entry will see Angelo as the sole Volkswagen representative on the grid for the event.

Angelo previously contested selected rounds of the 2019 TCR Australia season in a Kelly Racing-run Opel Astra. Since then, her on-track appearances have been limited, aside from participating in the category’s recent pre-season test at Phillip Island.

The Phillip Island round is currently planned as a standalone appearance. However, Angelo has made clear that a competitive showing could open the door to further starts as the season progresses.

She acknowledged that securing the drive required significant effort behind the scenes, noting that there were moments when the programme appeared unlikely to materialise. With the deal finalised, her focus shifts to delivering solid results in a field she describes as particularly competitive.

Angelo believes her familiarity with Phillip Island will be a key asset. Having accumulated substantial mileage at the circuit across previous campaigns, she views the recent test day as an important opportunity to reacclimatise to TCR machinery and rebuild race rhythm after a 12-month absence from competition.

While expectations are measured, she has identified consistent top 10 finishes as the primary objective, recognising both the strength of the grid and her limited recent seat time. Any results beyond that benchmark would represent a significant upside for the programme.

Phillip Island hosts Round 2 of the 2021 TCR Australia season across February 19–21, with Jordan Cox arriving as championship leader following the opening round, holding a narrow four-point advantage over Lee Holdsworth.
