Renee Gracie has spoken publicly about her controversial boxing debut on the Gold Coast, describing the experience as confusing, confronting and deeply personal, while indicating she does not expect to ever speak with her opponent again.
The former Supercars driver, who returned to professional motorsport in recent years, spent several months preparing for a boxing match against Summer Perry at the Podcast Royale Fight Night 2.0 event earlier this year. However, the bout quickly descended into disorder, with Gracie alleging repeated rule breaches from the opening moments.
According to Gracie, it was immediately apparent that her opponent had not prepared for a conventional boxing contest. She described being kicked, elbowed and tackled during the fight, which ultimately resulted in Perry being disqualified and Gracie awarded the victory.

Despite the official result, Gracie said the experience has left her searching for answers weeks later. She explained that the preparation process had been taken extremely seriously, involving more than five months of intensive training, making the nature of the bout difficult to process.
Gracie also claimed that verbal abuse during the fight escalated the situation further, saying the comments made crossed a personal line. She described the exchange as something she took “very personally”, particularly given the public setting and the physical intensity of the contest.
While she said she would welcome an apology, Gracie does not expect one to be forthcoming and has suggested the incident has permanently closed the door on any relationship with her opponent.
Despite the ordeal, Gracie has not ruled out boxing entirely. She said she would consider another bout under the right conditions, emphasising that any future opponent would need to have comparable experience and a genuine interest in competing within the rules.
Away from boxing, Gracie reflected more broadly on her career, drawing parallels between the incident and the challenges she faced earlier in motorsport. She reiterated that sexism and harassment played a significant role in her decision to step away from Supercars, countering perceptions that being female made her path easier.
Gracie returned to racing in 2023, becoming GT World Challenge Australia Trophy champion and later securing further success in GT competition. She noted that her current motorsport programme has exceeded her original expectations, having initially planned only a one-year return.
Speaking from a Racing-X perspective, the episode highlights how Gracie continues to navigate high-profile environments well beyond the racetrack. Whether in motorsport or alternative disciplines, her career remains shaped by resilience, scrutiny and a willingness to confront difficult situations head-on.
Gracie has indicated that while boxing was a challenging detour, her focus remains on racing and enjoying the opportunities that have emerged since her return to the sport.
