Australian karting standout Costa Toparis has advanced to the final four drivers at the 2024 Ferrari Driver Academy World Scouting Finals, currently taking place in Maranello, Italy.
Toparis, the 2022 KA2 Australian Karting Champion, progressed through multiple evaluation phases to secure a place among the four remaining contenders selected from an international field. The finalists include three leading European karters, highlighted by reigning CIK-FIA OK World Champion Ethan Jeff-Hall from the United Kingdom.
The final assessment will see all four drivers compete over two days in identical Tatuus F4-T421 cars at Ferrari’s private Fiorano test circuit, placing emphasis on adaptability, technical feedback, consistency and outright performance.
The Ferrari Driver Academy scouting programme is regarded as one of the most competitive entry points into professional single-seater racing, with past graduates progressing into Formula 1. One of the most recent examples is Oliver Bearman, who joined the academy in 2022 before stepping into the global spotlight earlier this year with a substitute Formula 1 appearance for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia. Bearman is set to contest his first full Formula 1 season in 2025 with the Haas F1 Team.
Toparis’ progression to the final stage of the World Finals follows a steady rise through both karting and junior formula competition. After establishing himself as one of Australia’s leading karting prospects, he has continued to attract international attention through testing performances and structured development programmes in Europe and the Middle East.
The World Scouting Finals represent a critical evaluation phase for Ferrari, with the successful candidate expected to receive long-term academy support and a clearly defined pathway through the junior single-seater ranks.
For Racing X, Toparis’ presence at the final stage underscores the increasing international competitiveness of Australian-developed talent and highlights the growing relevance of global scouting programmes in shaping the next generation of Formula 1 drivers.
